About

I’m a designer and dev based out of Hobart Tasmania - a beautiful, usually cold, land known for quality artisanal products and increasingly for its art.

I’m passionate about design and the net with it making up the bulk of my career so far, and I’m regularly involved with the Australian Graphic Design Association - currently acting as Chair of the Tasmanian Committee.

Design Philosophy

I believe in making cool things that look good, are widely useable, help people and are learning experiences. The below isn't exhaustive, but are the elements I keep in mind in my work.

Get educated

Always have humilty to see other perspectives to allow for personal growth.

Have the courage to admit that you don't know something and treat it as an opportunity to learn.

Design for people

This means design focused on being intuitive, easy to use and making human lives better.

It also means that if you’re not doing something that makes the world a cooler or better place, we’re not going to be a good fit.

Do right

Professionally this means honouring promises and doing the best to exceed expectations.

Personally, this means paying forward the help that was given my way on my way up.

Look good

Form and function shouldn’t be enemies. Whilst function should take priority in design, 90% of the time there’s no reason things can’t look and feel professional and good to use.

Think forward

Consider the people interacting with the design and how the service will be used going forward.

Try to design things that are timeless as well as being engaging.

Dare to be different.

There’s value in being familiar but being able to take risks and put forward work that's pushing boundaries when opportunities arise is always to be encouraged.
